AROMATHERAPHY is the use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils in massage or baths. It is a pseudoscience based on the usage of aromatic materials, including essential oils and other aroma compounds. The qualifier “essential” refers to the fact that the oil contains the “essence” of the plant. Once diluted, these oils may be applied to the skin, smelled, dabbed on a pillow or in a bath and sometimes heated for their aroma to be dispersed into the air. Though there is no evidence-backed research showing cures of illness, some studies have shown that aromatherapy improves psychological and/or physical wellbeing relating to mood elevators or stress relievers and the harmonization of emotional, physical and spiritual health.
