Hydration is something that our body needs to be able to function properly. Similarly, our skin also requires hydration as it is prone to drying out. The environment can influence the skin as well with the climate, pollution, UV rays and other factors requiring us to regularly hydrate skin and moisturize.
However, different skin types need to be hydrated and moisturized differently for the best results. Using the same method of moisturizing can even be problematic as sensitive skin can result in a breakout. It is best to first understand your specific skin type before you hydrate the skin.
Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Oily skin can be difficult to deal with as breakouts are far more likely and common. The excess of oils in the skin can cause it to appear shiny or greasy, especially at the end of a long day. There is often the misconception that oily skin does not need too much moisturizing as it is already hydrated. This is wrong as there are moisturizers that work to maintains the skin’s surface renewal cycle, reducing the oiliness and preventing breakouts.
Using a cleanser can prevent clogging of the pores and the use of any face wash with aloe vera, grapeseed extract, glycolic or salicylic acid can be used. Face wash that contains essential oils such as lemon essential oil which hydrate skin might also be suitable.

For those who suffer from excessively dry skin, adding facial oil can be beneficial as it keeps the skin soft and nourished. Non-greasy, lightweight products are best suited to dry skin as they are easily absorbed into the skin, hydrating it and making it smoother.
Some people find that they suffer from skin breakouts, but the breakouts are usually restricted to the T-zone which includes the forehead, nose, and chin. This is usually referred to as combination skin and can be affected by the weather as well as other lifestyle choices. This can cause the skin to feel excessively dry at times while it might seem oilier and greasier than usual.
This makes it more difficult to deal with combination skin. One of the best ways to deal with combination skin is to use a hydrating facial mask once or twice a week. This helps to keep the skin balanced, allowing it to absorb vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and organic acids.
Sensitive skin needs to be handled delicately as some products can cause breakouts. It is best to use alcohol- and fragrance-free products alongside mild, non-foaming cleansers to wash your face. To moisturize the skin, the use of a body butter, such as rose body butter, or balm can be beneficial as it is thicker than normal lotions and creams.
Sensitive skin also needs to be protected which makes it important to wear sunscreen, cleanse, and hydrate regularly. Excessive use of facial scrubs, masks and exfoliation products can be problematic and irritate the skin.
