MOTHER’S DAY 2020 - ONE TO BE REMEMBERED
10 May 2020 (USA)
This special day falls on different days depending on the country in which “Mothers” are being celebrated. This year in 2020, many countries are celebrating Mother’s Day on a Sunday except in some countries like Mexico and Bolivia where they always celebrate on 10 May and 27 May, respectively.
In the days of ancient Greece, the day was celebrated in honor of Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. The modern day origin (late 1800’s - early 1900’s) is attributed to Julia Howe, Anna Jarvis and Juliet Blakely. The holiday was promoted throughout the world and has since grown popular, became an annual ritual and over commercialized.
When asked, “What do I want to do or where do I want to go for Mother’s Day?,” I instantly lose cognition. All I really want to do is experience the joy that follows peace and laughter wherever that might be. The pressure of having to decide along with the pressure that those wanting to celebrate us, can really create double pressure if we allow it. It is important not to allow this influence to bully the day, but instead to bask in the sweet feeling of wanting to be pleased by those who love us and want to celebrate us. Frankly, I think everyday should be Mother’s day. Where would this world be without mothers? I lost my mother’s physical appearance at her young age of 61 over 10 years ago; however, I have never lost her fearless spirit, her fire to fight back, her dedication, commitment and loyalty, her artistic ability to create any and everything from food to wedding gowns, her laugh, her mood swings, her love of a new word to learn in the dictionary, her dance moves, her craftsmanship in design, her love of nature, orphans, and the elderly, nor the countless other attributes that she gracefully blessed and gave to her world and mine.
To everyone out there who has a mother, is a mother, married to a mother, and/or is celebrating a mother or mother-figure, please remember to value, love, celebrate, seek and create that joy which follows peace and laughter on Mother’s Day and hopefully everyday, thereafter.
Celebrate Mother(s) in your life by giving this unique and memorable experience.
